The post holder is not required to initially hold statutory qualifications, but is expected to participate in the induction training and NVQ to level 2 in the first 3 years of appointment.
Main duties:
General duties
1. Maintain up to date knowledge of changes in policies and procedures of the home.
2. Use initiative in planning daily/ weekly routines.
3. Carry out expected role without the need for constant supervision and direction although recognising your limitations and seeking supervision when needed.
4. Promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment.
5. Recognise the importance of personal contribution to staff morale.
6. Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
7. Participate in the company’s induction and training programme.
8. Make a positive contribution to the development of excellent client care.
9. Make a contribution to standard setting and audits
10. Be aware of the need to develop oneself and strive to increase personal knowledge wherever possible.
Health and safety
1. Report all accidents and incidents to the nurse in charge.
2. Comply with the company’s health and safety and infection control policies.
3. Keep all areas safe, clean and tidy.
4. Ensure all waste products are disposed of in a safe manner according to the company’s policies.
Communication
1. Establish and maintain a working rapport with the team.
2. Make prompt verbal reports regarding patients or visitors as necessary to the nurse in charge.
3. Report and relay information regarding duties to the nurse in charge as required.
4. Welcome clients and visitors to the home, providing assistance, support and information as required.
5. Answer telephone in a polite and timely manner and pass on any enquiries about a client’s condition to the nurse in charge.
6. To liaise with GP and district nurses regarding the health and welfare of residential clients.
House keeping
1. Work with other members of the team to unpack, check and store deliveries. Report any discrepancies to the nurse in charge.
2. Report when stocks are inadequate.
3. Liaise with laundry staff regarding linen stock.
Clerical
1. Maintain charts and patient information as required in your daily duties.
2. To maintain up to date records for all residential clients, including client assessments.
3. Ensure all client paperwork is stored properly to maintain confidentiality.
4. To liaise with social service regarding residential clients fees and personal allowance.
5. To make phone calls as required.
To perform any other duties as appropriate and delegated by management.
