Job: Project Engineer, York, up to £40,000 + Benefits
The Company
My valued client are an integrated support and construction services company providing maintenance services and enhancement services to the highways, rail, utilities, infrastructure markets, primarily with public sector and regulated sector customers, across the UK. The company focuses on long-term relationships, has 5,500 employees and delivers solutions through two primary business segments - Maintenance Services and Engineering & Project Services.
The Sector
The Engineering & Project Services segment serves public and regulated sector customers across a broad range of industries. Core services include the enhancement of road and rail infrastructure, flood protection, ground remediation, foundations, geotechnical engineering and building.
The Role:
As a Project Engineer you will optimise project delivery from initial receipt of project scope to handover to implementation (Grip Stage 1 to Grip stage 6) through safe and effective management, delivering to budget, time and to the satisfaction of the Client.
The main responsibilities will be:
- Apply all processes, procedures to deliver the project on time, within budget and to specification to allow professional management of the project, from GRIP stage 1 to 6
- Receipt and initial review of project remit for completeness and clarity of scope
- Control of scope creep throughout lifecycle GRIP stage 1 to 6
- Advice to project sponsors on compatibility of project scope to project budget
- Co-ordinate initial project 'kick-off meetings' and establish regular technical review and project progress meetings throughout GRIP stage 1 to 6
- Develop project managers response to sponsors remit
- Development of GRIP 1-4 budgets and GRIP 1-6 budgets in association with project estimators
- Develop feasibility-development programme and cost plan in association with project estimators
- Liaison with project team members (CRE, Construction managers, design managers etc., Network Rail project managers and project sponsors)
- Arrange feasibility site visits, topographical, asset condition, access and geotechnical surveys, etc
- Develop and maintain a project management plan (ref GRIP - project management) throughout feasibility development and detail design
- Develop multi-options including risk schedules outline programmes and budget options for option selection by key stakeholders
- Develop possession strategies, construction strategies and implementation programme in association with construction managers, delivery teams and project planners
- Produce Engineering Strategies to be included within the Target Price pack submission to Network Rail
- Ensure value management and value engineering reviews are conducted throughout the feasibility process (GRIP 3 and GRIP 4)
- Ensure risk management plan and pre-commencement health and safety plan is developed from GRIP stage 2 to 6.
Essential Skills
- HNC minimum qualification and preferably to degree standard or equivalent
- 5 day CITB safety management
- Working towards APM. Understands the Contract obligations and entitlements
- Understanding of planning of construction process
- Relevant site experience in Civil - building construction
- Awareness of Procurement process
- Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness
- Understanding of Client's requirements and the Specification. Able to set objectives for staff and undertake
- PTS
- 5 day CITB safety management
- Report writing
- Computer skills
- Knowledge of quantified risk assessment
- Full driving licence
